Apple’s best-selling phone the iPhone 13 now manufactured in India

Apple has started manufacturing its top-selling smartphone, the iPhone 13, in India. The tech giant’s recent move aligns with India’s plans to become a global manufacturing hub, cited sources with relevant information.

Apple first began manufacturing iPhones in India in 2007 with its launch of the iPhone SE. Since then, the tech giant has manufactured most of its recently advanced iPhones such as the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 in the country.

The iPhone 13 will be manufactured at the Foxconn facility near Chennai while the iPhone SE & iPhone 12 models will be built at the Wistron factory in India.

The company also shared its views saying they were looking forward to its manufacturing journey of the iPhone 13, introducing the A15 Bionic chip to Indians at relatively affordable costs.

The iPhone-maker currently has three partner facilities set up in India, namely Foxconn, Wistron, and Pegatron. Pegatron is also anticipated to start manufacturing the iPhone 12 first and the iPhone 13 later.

However, only basic vanilla models of all iPhones are manufactured in India, and none of its Pro variants, further indicating that all advanced models of the iPhone will be imported still. Given its success in local manufacturing, Apple is now planning to increase its volume and depend less on imports to reduce heavy taxes from the government.

Apple became one of the fastest-growing smartphone brands in India last year, with iPhone shipments increasing by a record 108% and capturing a 4% market share. The tech giant is now looking forward to breaking its previous record of smartphone sales in the country with the iPhone 13 and iPhone 12 manufactured at Pegatron, according to experts.
