Australian telco, Optus, is poised to become the first regional telco to provide access to 5G mobile services to its wholesale partners. SpinTel being the first to deploy the company’s 5G services, numerous Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNO) utilizing Optus’ network will be able to buy the company’s 5G mobile services, state sources.

According to Ben White, the Managing Director of Wholesale, Satellite and Strategy, the organization is thrilled to bring Optus’ 5G network to its wholesale partners, adding that with superfast speeds, 5G provides a fantastic experience by opening up a new world of opportunities for the company’s wholesale partners.

The offer delivers partners with further flexibility and choice for the purpose of enabling new products, innovation, and mobile operations, by leveraging Optus’ 5G and 4G network capacities, added White.

As per sources, Optus has opened up its 5G services for permitting partners to deliver 5G home broadband to its clientele. The company has almost 900 5G sites switched on and is launching out more in specific areas, even though 5G is not yet available in the Northern Territory or Tasmania.

Optus had made its first 5G move in January 2019 when it made the first 5G call by deploying 60 MHz through the 3.5 GHz spectrum. A year later, the telco made its first 5G data call over the 2300 MHz spectrum, making it the globally-first achievement by a telecommunications carrier.

For the uninitiated, Singtel Optus Pty Limited was founded in 1981 and is presently the second largest wireless telecom provider in the country after Telstra. The company has its headquarters in Macquarie Park, New South Wales, in Australia, and has numerous subsidiaries comprising Optus Television, Virgin Mobile Australia, Unwired, Optus Music Store, Reef Networks, Optus Billings, and others.
