IBM enters definitive agreement for the acquisition of Instana

IBM has reportedly entered into a definitive agreement for the takeover of observability and application performance monitoring company, Instana. The deal will help enterprises in better management of the complexity of modern applications across the hybrid cloud landscape. The agreement will also help in the advancement of IBM’s Hybrid Cloud and AI strategy by reinforcing its AI-powered automation capacities.

IBM’s SVP of Cloud and Data Platform, Rob Thomas, has been quoted to state that the company’s clientele is faced with the management of a complex technology landscape abounding in mission-critical data and applications that run across a broad variety of hybrid cloud environments comprising on-premises, public clouds, and private clouds.

The company’s acquisition of Instana is yet another significant step for the provision of companies having the most complete portfolio of AI-automated solutions for tackling this vast challenge, fostering the prevention of unforeseen IT incidents that could cost a business in lost reputation and revenue, added Thomas.

The incorporation of Instana’s capacities into IBM will reportedly enable companies in feeding significant insights into Watson AIOps, from where the information could be essentially compared to a touchstone of a normal operating application. Further, these applications are poised to comprise AI triggering alerts for the quick resolution of issues before rendering of negative impacts to these activities or transactions. This could also assist in the elimination of requirements for IT staff for the manual monitoring and management of applications, in turn freeing these employees for instead concentrating on higher value work and innovation.

This acquisition is reportedly set to support IBM in assisting companies in overcoming the challenge of managing application performance across numerous teams, with an average number of 2 to 15 clouds. IBM is also keen on the development of its AI-powered automation capacities, comprising the roll-out of IBM Watson AIOps, the company’s takeover of WDG Automation, in addition to consistent updates to IBM Cloud Pak for Automation.
