Geely likely to set up 5000 battery swapping stations globally by 2025

Zhejiang Geely Holding Group is reportedly planning to establish around 5000 battery swapping stations across the globe by the year 2025. The Chinese automotive giant is likely to achieve this using its battery swapping platform coined as E-ENERGEE.

The news comes after E-ENERGEE displayed its core technical components as well as solutions during an event recently held in Beijing, to showcase its potential in China’s new energy vehicle industry. For instance, parts like the locking device and the water-circulating fast-swap module were put through over 16,000 durability tests to ensure that the battery switching system would last for at least 10 years.

On the other hand, the self-developed 7-layer safety management solution developed by E-ENERGEE could also help in eliminating the hidden safety hazards within 10 seconds.

It is worth noting here that E-ENERGEE is an open platform that is compatible with several vehicles which consist of wheelbases ranging from 2700mm to 3100mm. It also allows swapping batteries under 60 seconds.

Reportedly, E-ENERGEE has established these battery swapping stations in more than 10 cities and various provinces in China namely, Zhejiang, Hunan, Anhui, Ainan, Tianjin, Shandong, Chongqing, and Jiangsu. Most of these service stations were developed just one year after its first launch in Chongquing.

Geely Technology Group, meanwhile, had started the research and development of battery swappable car architectures back in 2017, investing heavily over the years. The company now has more than a thousand permits related to battery swapping technologies as well as a full-chain open platform that can integrate with vehicles, electricity, and battery swapping stations.

Another Chinese automobile manufacturer NIO is also reportedly planning to establish over 4,000 battery swapping stations around the world.
